What is your dream?

Last week the strangest thing happened. Three people completely independently of each other mentioned the same author, and the same book to me. Naturally, I thought I'd better get onto it as when synchronicity calls she doesn't like to be ignored.

But before I could think twice about it, the book was on my doorstep! Ordered by a thoughtful friend and just asking to be read.

It's fair to say that I gobbled it up with interest.

Simon Squibb is an entrepreneur, keen to help others with his #givewithouttake movement which encourages individuals to help others without expecting anything in return. He aims to shift the focus from a transactional "give and take" dynamic to one of genuine kindness, community, and purpose. But the book isn't really about this. The title gives it away somewhat: 'What's Your Dream?'

A very good question indeed. Do you know yours?

In his book, Squibb explains why dreams and purpose are so important, and he shares dozens of anecdotes that are both relatable and often amusing. But the bottom line is this: have a dream, and follow it for your recipe to happiness.

Squibb's questions to ponder when considering your dream:

  • What is it that I like doing? And what don't I like doing?

  • What's my pain point for this? My motivation? So in my case, I practice and teach meditation because it helped me recover after burnout. That drives my passion for my job.

  • How can I help others?

It's not unusual to not know what your dream is, or perhaps you think you know what your dream is but you haven't really taken any steps to making it happen. If you want some sound advice on where to start, I can highly recommend this book to you. But before that, take some time and think about these questions. Let ideas marinade in your subconscious, and see what arises for you.

And do post in the comments what your dream is!
