End of year goals
A lot has been happening over the last couple of months, and I have spent more time than usual with my journal and on retreat. I realise that being a freelancer better affords me the time to take myself off to a retreat centre, but we can all carve out time for solitude and silence. (One hour in the morning? Three hours on a Sunday afternoon?)
If you're wondering why you might want to do this, consider the proposition that silence is the only conversation big enough to hold everything. When we step away from social media, meetings, routines and busy-ness, something special happens.
We can show up for ourselves in a way that is meaningful. We begin to notice things about ourselves, and to make space for thoughts and emotions to be seen but not acted out. Growth happens in the quiet times. We are able to better tune in to our own inner wisdom, which whispers, whereas the untamed mind shouts. If we are fortunate we might experience a moment of clarity or insight.
We can literally give ourselves private time for healing, but at the same time, confidence and purpose can be nurtured.
It was during a quiet time that I made a small list of things I would like to do in the remaining few weeks of the year. Some of them were work related, some of them were not. They were all pretty simple. Here's a taster:
Do a puzzle
Write some words
Have a conversation I have been putting off
Book two corporate events
Have a wild sunrise adventure
Accept a free rollerskating lesson
Launch a new digital initiative I have been working on.
Since I made the list I have made real headway and that feels good 😊
Take a moment. Make your own list. Create time for a mini retreat, or a longer one. Spend time with yourself and know that anything is possible in this tail end of the year.
